FROM NORTH SEA TO THE MEDITERRANEAN

PLANNED DISTANCE: 2200KM/1400M

ACTUAL DISTANCE WALKED: 2181Km = 1363miles

ROUTE: Dunkirk, France and east through Belgium, south through Ardennes into Luxembourg to the Moselle Valley, east into Saarland crossing the River Saar to the Hunsrück and Rheinland-Pfalz, crossing the Rhine at Speyer into Baden-Wurttemberg and south through the Black Forest, south-east to Lake Constance then south across Switzerland, climbing over the Alps at the St Gotthard Pass and down into Ticino, the Lakes and Italy, across the Ticino and Po valleys into the Ligurian hills and down to Genoa on the Mediterranean Sea.

European Long-Distance Paths E2, E3, E8, E1

France - Belgium - Luxembourg

FIRST SECTION - February 2003 Dunkerque (France) to Geraardsbergen (Belgium-Flanders). Roads by canals in France and E2/GR5A in Belgium – 210 Km

SECOND SECTION - September 2003 Geraardsbergen (Flanders) to Huy (Wallonie). E2/GR5A then left E2 going north east and cut due east to Brussels on GR – 196 Km (406Km)

THIRD SECTION – November 2003 Huy (Belgium-Wallonie) to Diekirch (Luxembourg-Ardennes) along E2 and E2/E3 – 187 Km (593Km) GRs to meet E2 again at Vielsalm and follow it into Luxembourg.

FOURTH SECTION - March 2004 Diekirch (Luxembourg-Ardennes) to Waldhölzbach (Germany-Saarland) along E3 - 172 Km (765Km)

FIFTH SECTION - July 2004 Losheim (Germany-Saarland) to Schlangenbad (Germany-Pfalz Rheinland) along E3 - 190 Km (955Km)

SIXTH SECTION - December 2004 Bacharach (Germany - Rheinland Pfalz) to Bad Mingolsheim (Baden-Wurttemberg) along regional routes and E8 - 189 Km (1144Km)

OVER HALF WAY – 1145Km = 716miles.

SEVENTH SECTION - March 2005 Bad Mingolsheim (Baden-Wurttemberg) to Kaltenbronn (Baden-Wurttemberg) along regional routes, Westweg and E1 - 104 Km (1248Km)

EIGHTH SECTION - April 2005 Kaltenbronn (Baden-Wurttemberg) to Titisee (Baden-Wurttemberg) along Westweg and E1 – 170 Km (1418Km)

NINTH SECTION - September 2005 Titisee (Schwarzwald-Germany) to Bellinzona (Ticino-Switzerland) – 386 Km (1804Km)
